Science and spirituality and the great chasm between… Is there are bridge, do the twain ever meet? Come, discover as we have a candid tête-à-tête with a medical practitioner at one of the leading Govt. hospitals in Mumbai who is also a follower of Lord Krishna.
Q.1. Being a medical practitioner, what is your take on ‘spirituality/ faith/ God’ ?
Spirituality /faith/God is a part of life. Seeing various patients and their path of recovery or otherwise, forces one to think about a power beyond us.
Q2. Do you consider ‘ science ‘ and ‘spirituality’ separate realms or do they meet somewhere?
I believe that science and Spirituality I think somewhere are looking at the same thing but via a different perspective. So they are not separate realms.
Q3. What has been your journey in the area of faith? How has it changed your worldview and your philosophy of life?
My journey in the area of faith has evolved over the years and has only become stronger. My philosophy is that we are mere tools in the larger scheme of things and things happen sometimes contrary to expectations. So this has enabled me to develop a calm mind as not everything is in our hands.
Q4. Do you think there is a greater need today to integrate medical sciences with the metaphysical worlds? Why?
Yes. In this era of mechanised practice, instant gratification and impatience, it will help in bringing about a holistic approach to medical practice and increase compassion.
Q5. Any personal experience/ moment when you experienced a feeling/ presence of a power beyond the ‘seen’. How has it changed you and your work?
Not exactly. But occurrence of events which are completely unexpected has shown that many things are beyond our control and there is a power beyond us.
Q6. Can a spiritual consciousness bring the ‘ X factor’ to medical science and therefore human life?
Yes. A spiritual consciousness that makes us a better person can bring the X-factor to medical science.
